Over the weekend of the 7th & 8th of September 2024, Darenth Valley Radio Society proudly took part in the RSGB's popular HF SSB Field Day, held in very close proximity to the club's base in a local farmers field in Crockenhill, Kent.
We operated the competition using the club's mast mounted HF beam and a 132ft end fed long wire antennas, into a Yaesu 991A which was ran at around 100w throughout the contest. Activity was also seen by the club callsign G0KDV on the adjacent VHF SSB contest where the furthest contact was northern Scotland.
It is the first contest that the club have participated in since 2019, and lots of fun was had by all.
We enjoyed guest visits from neighbouring clubs, interested neighbours and the land owner, all of whom we thank for their interest, participation and co-operation.
In the HF contest, G0KDV managed to make over 100 contacts to most continents, however were stopped short by the inclement weather for the final hours of the contest. We participated for the fun more than the points.
