Membership

Darenth Valley Radio Society is a club run by members for members to promote training and operating amateur radio. Our membership is open to anyone with an interest in amateur radio - You do not have to hold a current amateur radio licence to join the club.

We meet twice a month and hold regular club nets to keep members in contact and involved with the club.

Our Philosophy

The club is run for the benefit and education of its members. We teach and learn about all aspects of amateur radio - not just to pass an exam - but to support individual members and the wider amateur radio community.

Benefits of membership

  • No training fees - we don't charge for training towards your first (or next) licence.
  • We don't set deadlines on learning - our club ethos is that we are all learning continuously. It makes no sense to set a deadline on learning.
  • Continuous training and education - We run online and meeting based theory and practical sessions on all aspects of amateur radio.
  • Practical training - We believe that learning the theory of amateur radio is important, however it is essential to support and develop practical training and activities for theory to be understood and applied.
  • Ongoing Support - Gaining your licence is only the start of learning and developing. The club is here to support it's members in furthering their knowledge and experience beyond just achieving a licence.
  • Regular club activities - We are active in competitions, field days and in ongoing projects and activities.

But I'm no good at maths / science / technical subjects!

None of us were to start with!

We have members with university degrees and we have members who never studied in formal education beyond school. Anyone can understand and enjoy the science and operation of amateur radio regardless of previous education or background.

We will spend the time you need to become, not just comfortable with the subject taught, but to enjoy them as well.

Many people believe they can't do maths, can't understand science or that it is all to much for them. We know from experience that not only can you do it, but you can also enjoy it, have fun with it and look forward to learning the next topic.

But I'm too old to learn something new!

We have young members, middle age members and older members. All of us are still learning something. You're always able to learn and gain enjoyment from amateur radio whatever you stage in life.

Around the world there are thousands of amateur radio enthusiasts, regardless of age, race or gender.

Darenth Valley is a small, but friendly club, that meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Crockenhill Village Hall starting at 8pm.
