Getting started using the DVRS Slack group

As a members of Darenth valley Radio Society, you will be invited to join our club Slack workspace (we call it a group to make it easier). As a member of the group you will be able to share messages and files with other members of the club and coordinate club activities.

This guide is to help you get the most out of using the DVRS Slack group.

1.Download Slack's desktop and mobile apps

When you download the Slack desktop and mobile apps, you can receive notifications on all your devices and stay in sync when you’re on the move. Whatever you do on one device is reflected everywhere — Slack apps keep your place, letting you pick up conversations wherever you left off.

Go to slack.com/downloads to download Slack’s desktop and mobile apps.

2. Join the DVRS Slack group

You will receive an email invitation to join the group. This will be to whichever email address you have used in your club membership application.

When you join the group, Slack will guide you through the process of setting up your account. We’ll ask you to enter your full name, a display name and a password so you can sign in and out with ease.

We ask all club members to use their first name and callsign as their display name. This is in line with the clubs Data Protection Policy.

3. Setup your profile

Fill out your profile so that other club members can get to know a little bit about you.

Remember: You may have been in the club years, but new members may only have heard you on the radio or may only know your callsign - so help them out by adding a little bit about yourself.

4. Using Slack

A Slack group is divided up into channels based on subjects or projects.

When you join the DVRS group you will find a number of channels are already active. All members are welcome in all channels and so you should join in any discussions that interest you.

If there isn't a channel about the subject you wish to talk about then you can add a new channel to start a new discussion. Don't worry about creating new channels - when you are finished with them then they can be archived to keep the conversation but hide them from the general channel list.
