Today saw the first practical session for our new Foundation Students. With the current social distancing measures we needed to change how we ran the practical session. But we still managed to make some contacts on 2m even if garden furniture in a car park was involved!
We've been running the theory sessions online, but nothing beats actually getting experience with a radio and time on the bands practising skills.
The session was run and supervised by Rob G1YRV and Phil M0IMA and allowed the candidates the opportunity to try out the amateur bands - in this case 2m (145MHz).
The first time using a radio can be a nervous experience but the candidates did exceptionally well and gained confidence in calling CQ and establishing a contact.
Well done to all involved and we're all looking forward to the next theory session this week and then having a go at HF operating next weekend.
