Solar, HF and 6 Meter News

Solar News.

For the past week the sun has been very quiet, until yesterday (Saturday 27th) when a news sunspot was seen on the sun’s disk. The sunspot is from the new sun spot cycle (cycle 25). The bad news is, it is about to turn to the other side of the sun.

HF Report

Steve 2E0SSI has again been running his Raspberry Pi on 20 Meter’s at 200mW in WSPR mode.Sunday the 21st was the best day for reports, with good number of reports from North America and Brazil. Wednesday did see a small change in conditions. With a report from South Africa.Other stations have reported working stations on 10 Meters on the Sunday 21st and Saturday 27th July. These opening coincided with openings on 6 meters.

6 Meters. Sunday 21st July saw a reasonable opening with stations being worked at a good distance during the 6 Meter contest. The best DX was. YP8T in Romania at 1923km. Tuesday saw some strange results when running WSPR at 10 Watts to my vertical tri-band. Reports came back from Jeff TA4/G8SCU (Turkey) in the morning. Jeff informed me that I was the first G station he had copied. In the afternoon EA8BFX(Canary Islands) came back with reports. At no other time were reports received from outside the UK. Yesterday the 27th July saw an improvement in reports, with LX1UBD in Romania giving reports from 10:02 to 12:26. During this time, no other reports came back. I did get one report back from France at 08:26 and one from Germany at 17:26.All in all, it was a quiet week on 6.
