Club Activities

Training

A key activity of the club is providing training to all of the membership. Whether this i to help you study for your Foundation Licence or to help you develop in a new mode of operating, there is something for everyone still to learn.

You can find out more about training here.

Field Days

During the year we participate in the VHF Field Day (first weekend July) and SSB Field Day (first weekend in September). In 2019 we came 2nd in the Multi Operator Single Band Section.

Contesting

As well as participating in the two major  Field Day contests, some of our club members are active in contests throughout the year.

Talks & Guest Lectures

Members regularly give talks on an area of interest in amateur radio from technical basics through to specific operating modes or procedures. The club will also invite guest lecturers from other clubs or organisations to present on an area of interest.

All members are encouraged to give a talk about an area of amateur radio that interests them and new members are supported if they haven't presented to a group before.

Construction Evenings

The club will often undertake construction projects and experimentation. This may be a new design or following and testing an existing design.

Recent previous projects include the construction of a Magnetic Loop Antenna.

Social Events

The club is run by members for members and as part of that the club has an active social calendar as well as more radio focused activities.

The club arranges a range of social event throughout the year, from summer drinks and trips to a Christmas get together. We can't guarantee there won't be a radio related quiz somewhere in the evening though!

External Presentations & Demonstrations

Members of the club also give presentations, demonstrations and activity sessions to external groups on either amateur radio in general or on a specific area of interest.

If you would like to discus a presentation or session to your group then please do contact us.
