Carrying on with our programme of getting our new foundation candidates as much experience as possible on the air, Phil M0IMA and Kieran 2E0FVB arranged for a practical session at a secret undisclosed location (OK - we had to tell them where it was).
Driving out into the Kent countryside, we setup a portable 2m station to allow the foundation candidates the chance to get in some more supervised operating, this time looking at working through repeaters and also the chance to participate in the club net.
Mark G8PHM, last seen playing with Amateur Radio clubs up in Yorkshire, didn't want to miss out on the fun so decided to join in via Echolink. Using GB3MH, Mark was able to have a QSO with each of our foundation candidates. A great opportunity to discus both repeaters and Echolink with them.
Although it was starting to get a little dark by now, there was still time to jump across to 2m FM simplex and join in the weekly club net. However we had chosen our location a little too well and were picking up signals on the normal club frequency from miles away. A quick QSY down a channel and the club net was able to carry on as usual.
A huge thank you to the Ashdown Forest Repeater Group for maintaining GB3MH and making it available for all of us to use.
